Ondanks een winterse uitdaging van moeder natuur levert het weergaloze mountainbike-evenement verbluffende actie op zijn nieuwe locatie in de Oostenrijkse Alpen

Zelfs het vroege begin van de winter in Europa kon de actie deze week in Bike Republic Sölden niet tegenhouden. Geconfronteerd met ijskoude temperaturen, regenvlagen en zelfs een verse deken van sneeuw, vochten de `mountainbikers van de Swatch Nines MTB 2024 terug met mountainbiken op het hoogste niveau dat je dit jaar zult zien.

Van 10 tot 15 september was een gloednieuwe locatie in het Oostenrijkse Sölden gastheer voor een groep van 40 uitgenodigde mountainbikers uit het hele mountainbike spectrum. Van slopestyle all-stars tot freeride legendes en hongerige up-and-comers, de uitgenodigde mountainbikers vonden een gemeenschappelijke basis in een vooruitstrevend evenement dat een week van high vibes en hard-hitting actie opleverde.

RIDERS AWARDS: AUSTRIA AND FRANCE DOMINATE THE FIELD

Europese mountainbikers voerden de ranglijst aan tijdens de prijsuitreiking op zaterdagavond en wonnen op twee na alle prijscategorieën. Dorian Macher (AUT) won de New Nine prijs voor de beste nieuwkomer, terwijl Nines stalwart Peter Kaiser (AUT) de High Vibe Award van GoPro kreeg.

Het inventieve rijgedrag van Tomas Lemoine (FRA) werd de Creative Edge award waardig bevonden, terwijl het veelbelovende jonge talent Lisa-Marie Blanc (FRA) de Women’s Best Trick award mee naar huis nam. De Amerikanen Dylan Stark en Kaidan Ingersoll veroverden de categorie Best Trick bij de mannen, terwijl freeride legende Bienvenido Aguado (ESP) zijn greep op Best Line behield en de prijs voor de zesde keer in negen optredens op de Nines won.

Last but not least, Tim Bringer (FRA) and Patricia Druwen (GER) were crowned as the MVPs of week.

BYND FESTIVAL & MASH-UP SESSION

Samen met de Nines maakte ook het BYND Festival dit weekend zijn debuut in Sölden. Niet afgeschrikt door het stormachtige weer kwam een enthousiaste menigte mountainbikefans opdagen voor een vol programma met concerten, feesten, uitrustingstests en nevenevenementen. Op zondag 15 september konden de deelnemers ook genieten van een zitje op de eerste rij bij MTB-actie van wereldklasse, toen een groep speciale gasten zich aansloot bij de Swatch Nines-rijders voor een Mash-Up Session op het Nines-parcours.

THE SWATCH NINES SETUP: A LASTING LEGACY

Met de bouw van twee nieuwe freeride- en slopestylelijnen op profniveau heeft Swatch Nines het toch al uitgebreide mountainbike-aanbod bij Bike Republic Sölden aanzienlijk uitgebreid. Bovendien is deze innovatieve set-up niet ontworpen met slechts één evenement in gedachten: Het Nines parcours is gebouwd voor de komende tien jaar en zal vanaf de zomer van 2025 worden aangepast voor het grote publiek en worden geopend als onderdeel van het reguliere bike park.
